A relevant part of the CNR-IBE activities aims at developing methods, models, tools and indicators for the monitoring of agro-forest ecosystems: in recent years, a special focus was devoted to wildfire risk assessment with studies on the following topics: calibration and validation of fire behaviour and spread models at the landscape scale; effects of weather variables and climate conditions on wildfire occurrence and spread; characterization of wildland urban interfaces prone to fires; assessment of fire exposure and risk; climate change impact on wildfire probability and severity; evaluation of fuel management strategies on wildfire risk reduction; mitigation and adaptation to wildfires on climate changes; analysis of LIDAR and terrestrial laser scanner data; development of instruments and monitoring techniques.
