BSAA’s fundamental mission is to provide higher education and carry out scientific research, technical and consulting activities in the field of living nature sciences (biology, microbiology), agriculture, forestry, fisheries and veterinary medicine, related production and processing technologies.

Buryat State Academy of Agriculture (BSAA) founded in 1931 is a leading school of higher learning in the Eastern Siberia and the Far East.

More than 3500 day-time students are enrolled in BSAA’s study programmes of different levels: 27 Bachelor’s programmes, 17 Master’s programmes and 1 specialist’s (5-year) programme.

As the new Master’s programme is going to be interdisciplinary, the most relevant for the project purposes are departments that offer BSAA’s Bachelor programmes in Ecology and Landscape Design, Biology, Forestry, Management and Social Sciences.

These programs are offered at 5 faculties which are Agronomy faculty, Technology faculty, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agribusiness and Intercultural Communication and two Institutes, Institute of land Management and Institute of Continuing Education.

BSAA’s faculty is 251 teachers (professors, associate professors, lecturers). The staff of the involved departments has got international cooperation experience in both education and research projects.

BSAA has participated in several TEMPUS and Erasmus + projects and was a partner university in TEMPUS “SUSFOR” Support for Vocational Training in Sustainable Forestry” aimed at creating the system of learning throughout life in the field of sustainable forest management in the universities of Russia and Moldova. The project involved staff from the chair of landscape design and ecology, as well as chairs of management, biology and forestry.

The BSAA has partnership agreements with an environmental NGOs, The Baikal Volunteers Corpse, various protected areas in the republic of Buryatia and Transbaikalia. In the framework of these agreements field research is jointly implemented. Educational activities are conducted as field expeditions in forestry, ecology, biology, wildlife management.
